Brothers in art

Some arts commentators have been sniffy about the new double portrait of Princes William and Harry - and the fact that such an elevated task was left to a relatively unknown artist, one Nicky Philipps.

I dropped into the National Portrait Gallery earlier today on my way from one point to another, and got a far amount of pleasure from viewing the picture - Harry is spot on, William a bit off kilter - and indeed, from listening to the reactions of people looking at it. Three punkish teenagers were scrutinising it next to me, one with a face almost completely obscured by piercings. All of them liked it, and more importantly, seemed to have a good deal of time for the subject matter. You can't tell a book etc.

Anyway, judge for yourselves:

I think it captures Harry perfectly - not so much what he looks like, but his 'spirit'.
