Solzhenitsyn as seen by adults
Thursday 7th August 2008
Today's Daily Mail has this fine appreciation of Solzhenitsyn by Stephen Glover http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1042458/STEPHEN-GLOVER-A-literar...
He was also discussed with informed respect by Simon Sebag Montefiore on last night's News Night. I believe this magazine will be publishing an appreciation by historian Robert Conquest.

Did you see Andrew O'Hagan's glib and silly piece in the Telegraph? He is a smug bore at the best of times, but that was a truly execrable, adolescent piece.

Yes Vernon I did. The above post is my response, or ratrher, that of two people who understand what Solzhenitsyn signified.

A tribute by Robert Conquest can be read at the Wall Street Journal on line. Worth the trip there.

Thanks jlinville- its also reproduced in today's Sunday Times. I was asked to write it myself, but I didn't think I could do Solzhenitsyn justice as a novelist.
