Further evidence that the Crown Prosecution Service wants to drop the “Crown” from its name: I have just received an invitation from the CPS and the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (which the CPS will be taking over).This invites me to hear Keir Starmer give the “Public Prosecution Service Annual Lecture”.
A sign of things to come? Or merely stealth marketing?
Don’t worry: any change would require primary legislation. The Prosecution of Offences Act 1985 says
There shall be a prosecuting service for England and Wales (to be known as the “Crown Prosecution Service”)
