Standpoint is back, free to read, and committed to named, argued and checked journalism. These are the questions readers ask us most.
1. Do I need to pay a subscription to keep reading Standpoint?
No. Standpoint is free to read, including every issue in our archive from 2008 to 2020. You do not need an account or a card to read any article.
Our weekly newsletter is free too. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
2. How do you make sure what you publish is accurate and not fake news?
Every article on Standpoint carries the name of a real author, and an editor reviews it before it goes live. Factual claims are checked against named sources, and we link to those sources wherever we can.
Standpoint is a magazine of argument, so many pieces are opinion. We keep opinion and fact apart: a writer may argue for a view, but the facts that view rests on must be accurate. We regularly invite people who disagree to reply.
When we get something wrong, we correct it openly and note the correction on the article. Our articles are written by people, not generated by AI.
3. Is this the same Standpoint I used to read?
Yes. Standpoint was founded in 2008 as a British magazine of politics, ideas and the arts. It has returned under new ownership, and we are keeping what made it worth reading: serious writing, open argument and a defence of democracy and free speech.
Archive articles keep their original author and publication date, so you always know when a piece was written.
4. What will you publish now?
New writing is on its way, alongside our sections Dispatches, Features, Books and Civilisation. Until then, we are reopening the best of the archive, often with a new introduction explaining why a piece still matters.
If an old link to a Standpoint article no longer works, we are reconnecting the archive and most old addresses will point to the right page again soon.
5. Do you publish sponsored content? How do I know what is independent?
Occasionally, and it is always clearly labelled as partner content. Every partner piece is approved by our editor to the same standards as our own journalism. Partner content never outnumbers our editorial, and it is never added to archive articles.
Partners do not decide what our own writers say.
6. How can I get in touch, report an error or write for Standpoint?
Email us at [contact address] to report an error, reply to an article or pitch an idea. Corrections are reviewed by the editor and published on the article. If you would like to write for us, send a short pitch with links to your previous work.
